Computer dying a slow death

Quality Corsair DDR333 512MB Ram + Kingston DDR333 512mb ram

So, about a week ago I was playing UT, and got some weird error and it crashed. Then the whole computer just randomly rebooted.

When I rebooted, the computer just gave a serious of long continuous beeps. I then tried reseating the memory and it worked fine.

A couple days later, I was booting up my computer and it again gave a series of long continuous beeps. This usually indicates a RAM problem, so I rebooted and ran a MemTest86+ with both sticks of Ram in there. It failed. So I did each one individually. They both passed.

A couple days later, I got the same long continous beep problem. I tried each RAM individually for a long series of tests, and the Kingston RAM failed. So I just kept it out, and the computer ran fine a couple times.

A couple days later (today), now running just with the 512mb corsair ram, I get a series of long continuous beeps. Now, I see nothing on the screen, no BIOS bootup or anything. But, all the fans are spinning. The power light is also blinking.

Any ideas on the problem? Motherboard is my guess? Powersupply has been ultra-reliable on this setup for the past 2 years so I really doubt it's that.

Edit: after leaving the computer off for awhile, it's now booting up fine again? wtf? what's going on with this POS.

Just a thought... Try taking out your cmos battery and set your jumpers to reset bios and then switch it back and put the battery in, that may work...

If a cmos reset does no good, it sounds like it might be the board. Chaintech rma's aren't too complicated, but they will check your receipt against how long you've owned it.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I've reset the CMOS several times. It's now about a 50/50 shot on whether my computer will boot up if I press power. Memory modules I think are actually fine, seems like the MOBO to me. This sucks, cause now I have to plan an upgrade of all my components. The mobo is too old to RMA.

The beeps could signify anything, not just memory. There's usually beep codes for motherboards that point you to the culprit.

Have you flashed the bios recently? You should take a look at this thread, as there's definitely an issue with the bios flashing and chips. One guy has volunteered to "hotflash" people's bios chips to remedy:

Since there are known issues with this board, you might want to check with Chaintech to see if they will send you a replacement bios chip (if that's suspected):
