Computer doesn't start

I tried installing some new RAM in my computer yesterday, but it didn't work, so I shut down the computer, pulled the RAM and turned it back on. Nothing happened, my monitor didn't pick up a signal from the card, and my computer wasn't booting up. I checked all my connections and jumper settings, they looked fine. I tried taking out all the cards except the video card, and still nothing worked. I tried 2 different video cards: a Cougar MaxiGamer TNT2 (PCI) and a Voodoo3 3000 AGP. I tried resetting the CMOS using the jumper, and when that didn't work I popped the battery out for a few minutes and stuck it back in.

Any ideas on what could be wrong, or anything else to try? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try removing and reseating the Dimm(s) that were on the board before you added the new one.

If that doesn't help, remove everything from the mainboard except the case LED connectors(IDE Activity, Power and Reset etc)the CPU, Vidcard and one Dimm. If you get a good POST and Ram count-up, three quarters of the battle is behind you.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I've tried all of that several times, which leads me to think I'm screwed :)

It may be that static got the board. This happened to me (I think - I mean how do you ever really know) even when I used an anti-static wristband. My board at least gave a halting half beep attempting to POST, but had to be replaced.

You might try to RMA it. In my case mwave.com replaced the dead board for a nominal fee, since I no longer had the retail packaging, with no questions asked.

Try holding down the insert key when you start up your pc. I have reset the jumper on my board to no avail and tried this and it worked. Should basically do the exact same thing but who knows, computers are finicky.

check all componets to make sure they are seated fairly well. Also try resetting the power switch, or the fuse thing on the back of the drive..... flip it over and flip it back... make sure the button didn't get messed up on the case.... I've had that happen. It sounds like it's either dead, or the cpu might not be seated correctly. give'er a wirl...... good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Unfortunately, I think she's dead. I went ahead and ordered my Duron processor and Socket A motherboard. I was going to anyway, just didn't want to right now, especially after buying my 19 inch monitor :) Thanks again, I appreciate it!
