Computer doesn't boot up?

I am just wondering if a computer will post with no ram? Should I be able to get atleast to the bios without ram? I am having the hardest time with my new c2d build not even posting. I have tried with 1 stick and with 2 sticks and with no sticks and I still get the same thing. The fans start up and stop with in a few seconds. I have also tried without the video card and all the drives. All I get is the same thing. It doesn't beep cuz for some reason my case(p180b) doesn't have a case speaker. Was wondering if I could rig up and out ear bud to work in it's place. Any Ideas would be helpful?

You will not get the pc to run without any ram chips, that's for certain. You have tried only using one, but have you read the manual to put it in the correct ram slot for only one stick? Some boards are picky about the location (learned the hard way myself once).

As for the ear bud, it would only work if it had the special connecors that pin into the motherboard front panel; it doesn't use the same connector as say a pair of stereo headphones.

I am sure that I am putting it in the right slot on the mobo. I have read threw the manual for what slot and what ram my computer should have.

What I mean by the ear bud is to cut cord and splice it. So that I can connect it to the mobo where the case speaker is suppost to be. What I am really asking is would a ear bud work for a case speaker. I know I can connect it but would be give the ear bud enough juice to make the beeps I need?
