So last night I was using a file splitter and I opened the file splitter's main folder and the computer froze. Thinking nothing of it, I just rebooted. Once I rebooted, everything on my desktop was gone, and the only thing visible was the task manager. I suddenly realized everything was going EXTREMELY slow. I tried clicking on the start menu but all I got was the loading icon. I did a ctrl+alt+del and it brought up the task manager after like 2 minutes. There are no applications running. If you click on processes you have to wait another 2 minutes for that to show up. I noticed CPU Usage was at 100%. I ended explorer.exe and then the computer became fast again, but nothing showed up on my desktop (because I closed explorer.exe))Now nothing was deleted off my computer as far as I can tell, because if I go to applications in the task manager and try to browse for an application to start, I still have all my contents. But since about 3 days ago when I turned my computer on, an error box would pop up and say csrss.exe error or something. Csrss.exe is in my taskmanager and its listed as a system process. Once again i thought nothing of it. Please help!

I am running Win XP
2.1 ghz processor
512mb of ram

Csrss.exe IS a system process, it manages alot of the graphical commands in windows, client server runtime server subsystem or something goofy like that, shouldnt be alarmed, ITS not a virus, but it would still be a good idea to hit your system with a check, cuz a virus could be likey to CAUSE the problem with the file. Best thing to try though would be to boot to your original install XP disk and go into the setup and repair your installation, that SHOULD take care of whatever corruption or issue with that exe you have
