computer does not boot up, error message

hey, my friend has a problem with booting up his new computer (diy), and obviously, he cant ask on the forums, so i'm asking for him =)

ok, i'll start off with his specs

t-bird 800mhz
MSI K7T Pro2a
a stick of PC100 64mb ram and a stick of PC133 64mb ram
Creative Geforce2 MX
Creative SB Live! Value
3com 10/100+ NIC
IBM 10gb HDD (ata66)
Iomega ZipCD (cdrw)
Acer 50x (cdrom)
case: 300watt generic

ok, he's plugged in everything correctly, but when he boots up, he gets completely black screen, and the system does not post, or it doesnt even load the video BIOS information (the thing that says "geforrce2mx blah blah blah&quot😉.

the computer beeps, the pattern is long beep, pause, long beep, pause (repeats over and over again).

the troubleshooting LEDs on the MSI mobo are 0100 (red, green, red, red), meaning that it is testing the memory, and the possible problem listed in the manual that matches the LEDs say "Memory module might be damaged or not installed properly".

i made sure his RAM sticks are on the first slot. i've had him try only with his PC100 stick in the first slot, also with only the PC133 in the first slot too... so its not the problem with the ram being in the wrong slot. (also not a problem with the mixing of ram modules since he tried them individually too)

it shouldnt be a problem with his RAM sticks themselves because he's using them from his previous computer, and they worked just fine (he moved them over from his old computer).

everything else on the mobo is seated properly, as well as the RAM chips.
he used a conductive pen to connect the L1 bridges on his cpu, but he believes that he 'might' have spilled over. i doubt it... just a case of nervousness. hehe.

ok, anyways i was thinking that his motherboard is faulty. any opinions?

thanks in advance

Certainly a possibility. You sure the memory modules are seated good, snapped in?
What kind of led sequence do you get when you take out all the memory? Same? Different?

Make sure motherboard isnt being shorted out against the case. Do you have another cpu to try?

Red - Green - Red - Red means your BIOS is fried or the motherboard is otherwise shot. I had a problem with MSI's LiveBIOS where it crashed in the middle of flashing my BIOS and completely fried it. After restart the LED code was Red - Green - Red - Red. Sorry dude.

ewwwwwwwww.....

thanks for the replies, i'll have him see if there are multiple error messages, but from what i heard so far, it just goes straight to that error message.

i had him test all the other components on his other computer, his ram chips, his video card, etc, and they all work properly, so its not a faulty component.

would a faulty cpu have any affect on this problem?

Hi, this is ShockX's fren...i'm in school rite now, and prolly the only time i'll be able to use the comp since mine's bust...
well...i have one question that hasn't been answered yet...If i do spill over some conductive ink onto other connectors on the Level 1 Bridge, what 'could' happen???

they should be connected something like this like this

. . . .
| | |
. . .

but what if it spilled over like this???

. . . . ._. . .
|\| | or | | |
. . . . . .

would this be a cause to my problems???
thnx..

Errrr...sorry, my pictures of the bridges didn't come up right...

if the level one bridges were connected like:

. . . .
|\| |
. . .

or

.-. . .
| | |
. . .

Basically, what i'm trying to say, is that if the ink spills over in any of these ways with any of the connectrs on the level one bridge, would they cause any problems related to mine?
thnx...and sorry about having to post two times
