Today, something in my PC stopped working!
After I turned it on, it never posted.

I replaced the graphics card and the same problem.

Disconnected everything.
The only components left are the PSU, motherboard, CPU, graphics card and one stick of RAM. Same problem.

The graphics card fan never slows down. It used to spin hard for a few seconds at power up and then slow down. But, now it keeps going at max speed. This happens for both 8800GT and 7900GTO.

I will switch the PSU tomorrow to remove the PSU from the list of possible culprits.

But, after that, I have no second motherboard or second CPU.

Power meter shows about 200W.

Is this the CPU or the motherboard?
Any way to find out?

I had this problem a couple weeks ago; replaced 1/4 of my sticks of RAM and everything was back to normal. Try with a stick of confirmed working RAM.

Oh no you did not do that.
I just posted this. :)
Much obliged.

Good point.
Thanks.

Thank you!
:cookie:

I had 4 sticks of RAM.
And of course I removed three good ones and left the faulty one in!
After reading your post, replaced that one and got a post. Yay!

Thank you.

 Sometimes it helps to bounce ideas off other people. When you're upset that it isn't working, you may miss things that you would tell other people to check if your places were switched.

Logically, I should have suspected the remaining stick of RAM. It is embarrassing that I did not.
I posted to get more points of view.
I am lucky that Aflac who had observed a Video card fan at max speed caused by RAM was kind enough to post and share the valuable experience and knowledge. I am grateful.

The good people on these forums have come to my rescue more than once or twice and I am not ashamed of that part.

The stick of RAM is actually functional. It just needed to be removed and put back in.
Will be running memtest to confirm.

Ran memetest for 12 hours and there were all passes.
Runs Orthos for 12 hours also.

This morning, the same symptoms came back.
Removed the two 1GB sticks and it booted.
Put them back in and it booted again.

-------------------------------------
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
All voltages set to normal other than CPU, which is set to 1.25V

E6600 @ 1.25V 9x350=3.15GHz overclock from 9X266=2.4GHz
PCIE set to 100MHz

2X 1GB Crucial Balistix PC2-6400
2X 2GB A-Data PC2-6400
Memory multiplier set to 2.5
Timing set to : 5-5-5-18
Voltage set to normal

Seasonic 600
--------------------------------------

When it fails to boot, consecutive attempts to power up fails until I remove the 1GB sticks of RAM.
What is going on?
