Greetings All,

I'm currently writing from my (POS) RedHat 8.0 test server box seeing how my 1.4Ghz AMD w/ Soyo Motherboard decided to die on me last night. (RIP) I have had this system for a little over a year now, so instead of sending the motherboard overseas or whatever, I figured I would just upgrade right now especially with prices being as low as they are.

Anyways, I know a little about computers but not a whole lot. A friend of mine told me to come here because he thought you guys were pretty good. ;) I am looking for the best "Athlon/Motherboard combo for under $250.00 USD". I have searched Pricewatch, and TigerDirect, but I just want to make sure about my decision before spending any money. I'm currently looking at this deal from TigerDirect:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=MBM-A7V333WR-2000

It seems like a good deal to me, but I would love to hear about any other combos as well. Afterall, a smart shopper knows all his options before purchase. :)

Thank you for your help in advance,
- Tony

I agree to stay away from Tiger. Too many reports of problems and mismatched components. I've had nothing but good luck with NewEgg.com and MWave.com over the last few years.

On the motherboard, I have an A7V333 and like it a lot but there are bits and pieces that require fiddling. The VIA chipsets are still not as clean on drivers as they should be. Another good alternative is the nForce chipset. Both Asus and MSI make good boards with the 415 and 420 chipsets. There will be a new nForce2 chipset very soon (maybe now) that looks real good.
