I'm searching for a new computer desk and a new computer chair. The basic problem for me (with the desk) is that I only need something sturdy, simple, and deep. I'll be using a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB 22" monitor, and a Belkin ergonomic keyboard and I like to place the keyboard directly in front of the monitor, so I need something with a depth of at least 30". I also can't stand those slide out keyboard trays, so I'll try to avoid them, too. So far, I've stopped in the local Office Max, Best Buy, and Wickes furniture to check out what they have. Nobody seems to have the freaking simple table I'm after. If anyone has any recommendations for a good desk or chair, let me know! Thanks!

If you want some nice sturdy desk, try going to used office furniture stores. There are plenty of good computer desk that are usually pricy but are being sold cheap! I got one off a local store here for $25 for a very nice office desk. I have a 21" monitor on it and still have room to put a keyboard infront of it.

Used office furniture store? Intriguing. Are these places recognizable chain stores or just local mom and pop operations? I suppose I should just use the yellow pages :). Thanks.

You can have the desk a bit further out from the wall and have the monitor further back. This will make more room in front of the monitor for your keyboard and notes etc. I do that. I have a 19" and it would use far too much desk space, so I just have the desk come out of the table a bit further so the monitor is as far back as possible.

Do you have an IKEA near you? I got a nice big computer desk, it's very simple. Big wood slab with a metal frame underneath, side shelf attachment, and rolling file cabinet.

Buy 2 file cabinets, then head down to your local building supply store, tell them you want a 36" solid core slab door.

Place said door on top of your new file cabinets and you have a super sturdy desk, 36" deep, cut to whatever length you want.

I have 4 of those doors making up my desk system.

you've NEVER heard of IKEA? they're a big swedish furniture chain store that has huuuge stores larger than most Home Depots with fairly cheap furniture. Ikea.com to order a catalogue.

I love it! That sounds like a superb option. Checking out file cabinet prices now...:)
