Specs:
P4 3.06 GHz HT @ not overclocked.
Asus P4C800-E motherboard, built-in soundcard disabled.
1.5 GB of memory.
Built by ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128MB with Catalyst 5.13.
Sound blaster Audigy OEM with Web update drivers and EAX4 drivers.
Antec SL400 PSU.
WinXP pro w/ SP2.
I formatted a few days ago, and after the reinstall the problem started happening.
Basically, my computer crashes with a screeching sound, usually when playing world of warcraft (wow), and sometimes when listening to winamp. The crashes are unpredictable as they're random. Sometimes it happens after playing for 2 min, and sometimes after 2 hours (same for winamp).
When the PC crashes, the fans are still running, and I have to do a cold reset.
I have the latest intel inf files installed for the motherboard, and all the critical winxp updates. I ran memtest and there were no problems. The CPU and Case temperatures are rather good (~32-34 and ~22-26 Celsius respectively while idle, ~45-50 and ~28-32 Celsius respectively under load). The PC is stable after running prime95 for a while.
Any ideas?
