Lately my computer has been crashing after running for a period of time. It makes a beep sound like a smoke detector, and everything crashes....the beep sound keeps on sounding until i press the power button. I checked the event viewer this is the message i got "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." Does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

My computer specs are:
Window XP Pro
AMD athon XP 2500+
Soyo Dragon KT600 platium
1GB 3200 400 GHZ DDR
120 GB Maxtor 7200 8mb(partitioned (D:local drive) C: and Z)
Geforce 2 gts

I've tried using the checkdisk feature, after using that i didn't get the error in event log, but i still have the same problem. It seem to happens when i backup dvds, i didn't have that problem before. The HD i have in this computer is less than 6 months old. I suspect its the HD what do you guys think?

If you guys need to know more specs please let me know....please help me thanks in advance.

most likely a hard drive, did you do a full repair on the chkdsk? or just had it scan the drive? scanning only lets you know if there is a problem chkdsk /r at the command prompt will actually attempt to fix and problems found.
