Computer Crashes Every couple of hours..Please Help

I was running DC, left for a bit to come back and see that my downloads had been interrupted by a crash and restart. So i thought maybe it is DC acting up with the system because it hadnt happened that much when I was running DC++. So I wake up to see that the computer has crashed and restarted. NOw it is restarted with no apps runnning really, and it froze. Why would a computer freeze when nothing is really running. I know that the back stage apps are running but other than that, my computer seems to freeze a lot as well. What is going on?

Well, my computer was crashing a lot too. I cleaned my hard disk and reinstalled OS. Now i hardly get any crashes.

how do you mean you "cleaned" your hard disk? You f disked or ran the hard drive cleanup util? cou

I deleted everything from the disk in dos window. Just typed del c:

Not a good thing to do, at least not that way. What OS are you running? First of all, if you DO want to do a "Clean Install" (Which is formatting your whole PC and starting fresh) I suggest you either do it through the Windows setup (if you have Win2k or XP (not sure about Win9x) or you go to MS-Dos and "Format C:\"
I suggest doing the first one though.

But before we even discuss formatting, have you tried uninstalling DC++/DC first? I'll try to think of more possibilities as it comes up.

Well i think now after i have posted that message it appears to be freezing and not crashing per se. 2 options that i have heard are corrupted video driver or the heat factor. what do you think of these? should I uninstall my videocard and reinstall it? If I uninstall my card this does not stop a signal from going to my monitor correct. It just stops the options and resolutions that the video card enables correct. so in other words if i uninstall my vid card and restart i will still be able to see the desktop and such it will just be at a really small res right?

If you uninstall your video card, then you won't be able to see your monitor/screen. First of all, I suggest that you download the latest drivers for your video card and see what happens. If you can't install the drivers, you can (if you have WinXP go to your video ctrls and do a "roll-back drivers". Rolling back drivers mainly just goes back to the drivers prior to the current ones you have. Then try and install your new drivers. If there are no drivers for download, then I suggest a roll-back drivers and see if that works.

Freezing = I don't think = Heat Factor. If heat is the factor, it mainly reboots itself.

i have the latest drivers on my computer. i will try the rollback and see if that fixes the problem
