Ok, so long story short, my computer is getting old (~3.5 years), and also was fucked up during a lightning storm (destroyed my PSU which i replaced) and was starting to randomly crash and could no longer run games that it used to run no problem (WoW, Fear)and I didn't want to make a new build until Win 7 comes out; so I decided to purchase a new Video Card and crossed my fingers.

Well I installed the new Video card, 2 new fans, and an audio card and the problem has went away, however now when running games it will randomly just freeze for a little while, then my monitors will turn black as if they are not connected or can't find any video input - note that my computer is still running though. When this happens I can't even restart my computer without resetting my CMOS.

So with that being said, does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? I can supply any other information that may help diagnose this problem, just ask!

ram or mb.
and yes before anything, it must pass memtest at the very least. if it passes that prime orthos with video cards in...if it fails, take things like video card out, run integrated graphics, try again.

Thanks guys. I will run memtest tonight and let you know the outcome. If RAM is the problem, would you mind me asking what a good upgrade would be? Anything will do :) Thanks a ton for the help I appreciate it.

whatever is in hotdeals/slickdeals/fatwallet and matched pair 4gb or whatever will be fine as long as its atleast pc3200. timings and all that..not worth bothering with unless you've already maxed out everything else on an uber system

I would recommend not spending too much to get 4GB of DDR unless you found a smokin deal. The cheapest 2x1GB set on the egg is 56 bucks. They don't even list 2x2GB sets. Anymore money that that would be better spent towards your new rig. Win7 is right around the corner for your new build. You could always run the RC until then.

well the thing is 2x2gb became cheaper or about the same as 2x1gb a while back when it came to hot deals. you know how it is, the obsolete eventually go up in price:p
