computer connects to router, but no internet

Hey,

Everythin seems to work on my WRT54G, the LEDs are green, the router is connected to the internet, my computer is connected to the router, and it's possible to login on to the router (using 192.168.2.1 on my browser).

The only problem is that my internet does not work. I have a cable modem, the firewalls are all switched off, the computer is connected via cable to the router, I use CAT5 cables, and sometimes the router seems to work, but eventually he disconnect the internet. It is very strange because I haven't read about this problem, and my IP adressess seems to be good (I work with automatic DHCP). So everything works except for the bloody internet.

And another problem: I switched my WMP54 from one computer to another (just to check if it was the computer that gave the problems), when I switched it back I couldnt get the thing installed. Weird.

I used all my knowledge and need yours. Thanks a lot.

You mentioned that you can access the router, and the router is DHCP enable, but is your PC settings in auto (obtain IP automatically)?

This is from another post, with similar problem:

EDIT: FIGURED IT OUT... NM

I can connct to my 802.11b linksys router through a wired connection typing in the standard linksys IP but I cannot connect to the internet. thinking it might be my network card or some setting that got screwed up I hooked up my wireless adapter and I still couldnt hook up. Other computers work fine. However when I connected to some other router in my neighborhood using the adapter I was able to get online.

I also noticed the internet gateway in "network connections" is disabled when I set a specific IP, however when I enable it... it doesnt enable.

so wtf is going on?

a little history: basically I was reconnecting my cables and powering down and up the networking gear. thats when I noticed my connection was hosed. I quickly realized i had the cable modem hooked up to the wrong port (uplink instead of WAN). still couldnt get it to work but then I changed the network settings to automatically configure IP instead of setting it to 192.168.1.105. Now I could connect to the internet but I couldnt connect to my router. fiddling around I'm back to square one... the internet doesnt work, but I can connect to my router.

indeed, I can access my router, and DHCP is enabled. My PC's are in automatic so IP is automatically obtained.

I read the other post, and it is the same problem, but has this person already found a solution?

yes, it's possible to connect to the internet when my computer directly is connected to the modem.
