WANTED : A small female friendly computer:

#1) Mini-ITX form factor
#2) SD-Card reader on the front (for camera pictures)
#3) two USB 3.0 ports on front
#4) Just enough room for one full sized hard drive. (keeps computer costs down)
#5) Colors: Easy to dust silver (think apple) or black (timeless low profile design)

What we don't need:
CD-Rom drive bay (if you must add it make it a slimline)

Closest I've found to this so far:

Habey EMC-800S Silver Heavy duty 3mm aluminum Slim Mini-ITX HTPC/NAS/Server Chassis 60W - OEM

The issue with using full sized HDDs in SFF systems is that they add size, noise, heat and power draw. Mostly, the size is the issue.

I gotta agree with you, Wacki.

You're really asking for a Mac Mini, using a 3.5" HD rather than a 2.5". That's such a cool packaging job I've seriously considered just dumping way too many years of PC heritage and going to the dark side (or is that the white side?).

Anyway, I'd love to get a PC with the specs you've requested. Why do I need 5 slots in a PC, or mounting arrangements for 6 hard disks, or all the empty space in even most SFF cases? I want an I5-2500, 8GB, room for a mid-range video card (6850, for example), room for a hard disk (I'd accept a 2.5, but 3.5 would be better), and standard I/O (DVI/HDMI, USB, audo, GigE), and that's it. I like your idea of an SD card slot, but I think I'd make it a micro-SD slot (I don't have anything anymore that uses SD).

There's a lot of power that needs to be provided for the CPU/Video, and a lot of heat that needs to be gotten rid of, but that's a well-understood engineering problem.

I want something that sits on the bookshelf above my monitor, not something that takes up a big chunk of my floor or my desk.

Sigh.
