Hey all, I'm planning on building a new pc, but am confused on a couple things. I didn't know what subforum to post in, so i posted here, sorry if this was the wrong place to post.

I'm planning on building a Core 2 Duo PC, (my budget is $600)
For the proc I'm thinking of buying the e6750. (I was originally going to buy a e6420 from newegg ($186) but the e6750 is only $189 from microcenter). My question is, what does the increased fsb mean? What does the FSB really do? What kind of motherboard and RAM do I have to get? Most mobos I see that say they support 1066 and 1333 mhz fsb say they support ddr2 800 RAM, but a friend of mine said that the ram I buy should be clocked the same rate as the FSB. The mobo I was going to buy was an nforce 650i ultra, will that work with this proc or should I shell out the extra dough and get a 680i? What RAM will work? Will 2GB ddr2 800mhz ram work? Also, how does the e6750 overclock? I'm not planning on overclocking too much. What cooling should I get?

Again, thank you for your help, I'm just trying to learn a bit about this stuff.

in computers, the front side bus (FSB) or system bus is the physical bi-directional data bus that carries all electronic signal information between the central processing unit (CPU) and the northbridge.

Faster = better

The e6750 has a max bus speed 1333mhz, the dual channel ddr2800 is more than enough to feed it

From reviews on this board it isnt great for OC so since you arent planning on it it should do you find. I personally prefer corsair or crucial memory.

Get a P35 motherboard, they are really good, and there are cheap ones available. Get DDR2-667 if you don't overclock, it will run at a 1:1 ratio with a E6750, DDR2-800 for overclocking up to 1600MHZ FSB, and if you want a higher overclock get good quality DDR2-800.

Thanks, I'll look into the p35 mobos. Will the e6750 OC to 1600MHZ fsb? will I have to change voltages?

Also I noticed that I should have placed this thread in the general hardware section, sorry bout that.

No worries, I'll transplant it to General Hardware for you :)
