Also posted this in the motherboard section but i thought this section might be more appropriate. I apologize for being a newbie and posting in both sections.... I just wasn't sure if i would get more response here!

Trying to pick one of these sale options. Any advice and recommendations is appreciated.

The prices posted below our correct but different from the links.

I7 875k + MSI P55-GD85 = 439.99

I7 950 + MSI X58A = 469.99

I7 950 + MSI X58M = 439.99

Im looking to spend under 500 for a processor and motherboard. I am not limiting myself to these options but based on my research they seem to be the best bang for the buck. I am in Canada so I can only use canadian websites such as....

http://www.ncix.com or http://memoryexpress.com/

Thanks again for helping a guy out.

P.S. I know this is motherboards section but if you have any recommendation on DDR3 memory that is also appreciated.

yikes dude, none of these "sale" options are good decisions, because they all involve the i7.

If you want a great upgrade get an i5/ Gigabyte UD3 for $300

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.570318

The HT on the i7 isn't properly utilized by anything except professional 3D apps like CAD and 3DS Max, or high end Video Editors. Unless the intended use is primarily a 3D workstation, I would not get an i7.

thank you for response. I am not set on I7 combo but decided that it was a good deal for 150$ to upgrade from the I5.

I have two more questions before i buy anything.....

1) I can get this bundle for 279.99 NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal Intel Core i5 760 Quad Core & MSI P55A-GD55 CrossFire DDR3 USB3 Motherboard. Is that a good option?

2) Is that a good upgrade from the E8400/P5q Pro Deluxe?

3) They are offering me for 100$ this ram OCZ OCZ3G1333LV8GK Gold 8GB DDR3 2X4GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10666 CL 9-9-9-20 1.65V Dual Channel Memory Kit. Is that a good option for that motherboard/processor and for that price?

4) what is a good CPU heatsink for the i5?

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

I personally have the Gigabyte UD3 and i5 760 combo I listed for you. It is a great option.

As for the MSI, that is in the same ballpark, and it's cheaper, I'd go for it :).

OCZ DDR3 is crap, get GSkill 1333 RAM if you know what's good for ya ;)

I'd go for the 4GB 1.5V $54 job :).

Also What should I look for in a heat sink for the i5?

If you aren't Overclocking don't bother. The one that comes with will be fine.

Wait for the Sandy Bridge release in January. Buy the i5-2500K for about $215 US. Pair that with a quality motherboard and DDR3 RAM.
You'll be glad you waited...

Motherboard prices will vary depending on the quality of board, but look for them to be slightly higher than the current 1156 socket boards, but a bit less than the 1366 boards. The "premium" boards will be anywhere from $175 to $350...

One of the folks on the ASUS forums gave me this:

RAM prices for the i5 Sandy Bridge processors should be the same as current prices for 1156 processors...in fact, AFAIK, it may be the same RAM.
I paid $130 on Amazon for 8 Gb of DDR3-1600 Corsair RAM...but that's higher than the same memory at Newegg.
Being in Canuckistan, your prices may vary.

well id be looking to spend ~200 U.S. on the processor.... ~150 U.S. on the motherboard and ~120 U.S. on 8GB of ram will I be able to do this build?

I already have ATI Radeon 5700 (which i think is sufficient for my gaming (Starcraft 2 is the most demanding game I play)

The i5 2500 is probably the chip for you, which will be a bit over $200 (maybe $220 CAD?), but otherwise you should have no trouble getting a decent mobo for $150. The memory is the same as current DDR3, so here's 8GB of G.Skill DDR3 1333 for less than $100 Canadian.
