Putting together a new computer for a buddy of mine and so far all I know that's going in it for sure is the amd64 3200+. Ram won't be a problem, we'll see what he wants, most likely some VS Corsair. I'll prolly be going with the skt 939 Asus A8V Deluxe.

My main concern is the video card. He is limited to how much he can spend on the GPU.

I was looking at ZZF for BFG 6800's or 6600's. I seen a vanilla 6800OC for $300. The 6600GT OC was $250. Also the $250 6600GT had faster mem/clock speeds. If that's the case, why's it cheaper?

Here are the links to the 2 cards, help me figure out which one is best and why ! :D

Also i need some case suggestions, I dont keep up with cases so maybe you guys can help me out :D. anything under $100 please

As far as everything else i'm sure what i'll get but suggestions for other parts of the psu would be nice, such as the PSU, etc. :D

Thanks guys,

Ayman

well.. it depends, if you can shave $70 off something, you can get http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=322987 this which is obviously quite a lot better than all those 3 cards, which struggle at over 1280x1024 resolution id guess.... if not then i spose the 6800 OC.. the 6800 is faster because of 256 bit memory interface as opposed to 128, and 12 pipelines vs 8, though it has slower clock speeds.

So although the 6600GT might show higher clock speeds, the pipelines make up for it i'm guessing... That's why my own personal 6800GT is faster and more expensive than the 6600GT. Also my friend won't be playing on anything over 1280x1024 anyways. So i'm guessing there you wouldn't need to worry about 128vs256. If anything the highest resolution he'll play his games at would be 1024x768. Especially considering he has a 17" monitor and he's not sure if he can upgrade to a 19" just yet.

Thanks for the reply Azzy. If anyone else could tell me the difference between the two 6600GT's i posted earlyer, plz tell me. THe cheaper one has higher clock speeds but no VGA connect. The more expensive 6600GT is $50 more but has a VGA yet slower clocks speeds. I'm confused !

i think you've made a mistake sir, you have listed 2 of the same 6800 OC, and just 1 6600GT.

now youve edited it, i personally would get the 6600gt, and either pocket the difference, or spend it on a nice case :) there is not much difference between them

Sup Ayman. Don't go with the plain 6800. The 6600 GT performs nearly as well and is cheaper. That being said, look around for an X800XL. The MSRP is $299 for that card and it performs nearly on par the the 6800 GT, but they are brand new and hard to find right now. If you find one for around $300, jump on it!
If your friend also needs a PSU, look at the Antec cases. The cases are nice (not great but still very well built) and they come with a solid PSU. Newegg carries the Sonata for $99 and periodically will offer free shiping on it.

Yes it will be AGP, he doesn't want PCIe, thanks anyways for the suggestion.
