The four things for a successful bottleneck free pc are :

-Ram

-Hard Drive

-Cpu

-GPU

A Tbird with a 266 mhz FSB, DDR system ram, a 7200 rpm hdd, and a Geforce3 GPU would make a FAST ass gaming rig.

Your hard drive is your major bottleneck once you get a good CPU, RAM and GPU. Even really good hard drives are the part of the system that slows things down, but not in DVD playback because the hard drive isn't really used in that case.
