My windows 7 PC (4 years old now?) sometimes does not boot up properly. It seems to happen randomly or when I start up my computer soon after I had just turned it off.
-When I turn on the PC and turn on the monitor, I hear the fan go into overdrive, and then the monitor goes into sleep mode. No indication from the monitor what may be happening. No other sound other than the fan in overdrive from the computer. I think the fan is from the video card but its not as loud as when I play a video game. I turn off the PC by holding down the power button until it shuts off, wait ~15-20 mins and then turn it back on again, and it works fine.
My guesses are:
1) Power Supply
2) Motherboard (ASUS) not overclocking
3) Video card (ATI something...)
What are your opinions on what component might be causing the issue? Where should I start? My thinking is to try it in this order:
1) swap video card
2) swap power supply
3) but a new computer!
Or could it be something else?
Thanks
