Computer boots BY ITSELF

This is really starting to weird me out a bit, because every time (or 95% of the time so far) when I shut my new custom built pc down, it stays off for about 5 secs, then comes right back on. And I don't even touch a thing. What is going on, how do I solve it?
I'm not sure if this theory is correct but: I recently read on a sticker that was on my PSU, that the second fan comes on when needed. I think that when I shut my pc down, it tells the rest of the hardware "i'm not done cooling" and boots everything back up. But I'm probably wrong.
Build specs are in sig.

That's scary. I had the same problem right after I built mine,I think it was a bios upgrade that solved it.

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum <- you both have the same MB. Upgrading BIOS might just be the solution. ;)

wake on lan - wake on modem - any other of a long list of wakeup events that are turned on.

Actually, I've worked on a computer that did things like that, it was the usb wireless ethernet adapter that when plugged in, the machine would turn on. Wake on lan was turned off - only option I had was to get a pci usb controller (required low profile pci cards, the only low profile wireless adapter wouldn't work in Win98). Anyways, it worked after that - BUT about 6 months later the wired nic port crapped out, and a month after that the whole motherboard ceased to work.

Not saying your motherboard will crap out - just telling my story of when I saw that problem.

Correct, it should be in your power options.

One other farout possibility is that the power switch has a short in it.....but normally something like that would take some physical action to activate.

Why do you shut down your PC? I've always been an advocate of leaving them on 24/7/365 if you use them everyday. Just turn off the monitor, it uses a good bit of juice.

Despite the fact that I do use it everyday, I would like to save a little on my electric bill for the 8 (hopefully) hours i sleep. And 6 hours every day that I'm not home.

I checked my wake-ups, everything was disabled. Should I try updating my BIOS? Or use that as a last resort?

Update BIOS whenever possible on your mobo. Those updates are there for a reason, and the manufacturers have it set up so that it's very unlikely to give you a bad flash.

Unfortunately you will probably have to RMA it. If you look over at the official msi neo 4 platinum thread another user called NoSpeed had the same problem and was not able to have it fixed. I was going to RMA it a while ago but dont look forward to being without a pc for a month. I have reformatted, chopped and changed drivers and will definitely this time be contacting where I purchased the PC from early next week.
A couple of solutions which have not worked for me but may work for you:
Upgrade bios
Uninstall and then reinstall nvidia drivers
Try using the nvidia lan instead of the marvel one

From msi tech help:
1.Clear CMOS

2. If above does not work
. Please go to device manager (How to go to device manager: right click my computer->choose properties->Hardware->device manager)->Network adapters -> right click your Lan card-> choose properties-> Power Management to not select "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" to check.
Please go to BIOS->Power Management Setup->Wake Up Event Setup to disable "Resume By PCI Device PME#".

Unrelated but do you get pixel popping in games that you play?

Anyway good luck.

To test if it's the wake on lan or stuff like that, disconnect your lan, maybe even usb devices (mouse and keyboard if applicable) and see if it still powers on. You can use the shutdown -s -t XX where XX is the # of seconds to wait until shutdown so that you can unplug your usb keyboard/mouse before it turns off.

It may be shorted to your case.

I think I found the culprit. I have been having some major networking discrepancies recently (not this comps fault), so I tried using my NVIDIA nForce network port, instead of my Marvell Yukon, and viola. It shuts down and stays off.
Would you recommend updating my Marvell drivers?

Have you checked the properties for the Marvell LAN in device manager? It may have wake-on-lan options in there.

That's exactly what it was set on. I turned it off now. Thanks!
I also turned off WakeOnLAN on my other port, but that one wasn't a problem.
