OK, I need suggestions!

I've got a computer I built last spring. Its an Asus BX6R2 Motherboard and a 366 Celeron Processor. For the past year I have had the Processor overclocked to 550 with no problems. About a month ago, I noticed that occasionally when the computer was left unattended for a while, when I came back and tried to wiggle the mouse to get the monitor to come back on, it would not work. Keystrokes also failed. I had used an old hard drive and assumed it was starting to go bad, so I replaced it with a new one last week.

Unfortunately, that didn't cure the problem. In fact, now sometimes when I turn the computer on, it doesn't even start the boot-up process. Pressing the reset button will usually force it to start booting up, but sometimes it still locks when left unattended for a while.

I assume that it is either a Processor or Motherboard problem. What is the best way to determine which it is without going out and buying new ones of both? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't think its from Ov'cl.

i had the same problem on an older 2nd system that i had.

it had a Cell 300a (Not Ov'cl),with a cheap PC chips board.
after left for awhile, the screen would be black, and the mouse movement wouldn't make it come back on.
had to turn power off to be able to reboot.

never figured out the problem however.

Hopefully you will have better luck.

It is the power saving features of Win 98/ME/2k. Your motherboard does not support the snooze/standby funtction. Go to the power management control panel and adjust the settings so that the system does not go into sleep/standby. I select never for the system standby option and set the time to turn off my monitor between 15-25 min... but you can set your to whatever you want.

I had already clocked it back down.

Thanks, Tsaico! That seems to have done the job so far!

ACK! PC Chips board suck...stay away from them like the plague!#_$)#%

Sniper - you might need to reapply some thermal paste to your processor, it might have dried out and could be increasing the temp.

Edit: oops, didn't see that you had the problem solved...oh well, couldn't hurt to reapply some thermal paste anyway :)
