computer beeps every time I move mouse!

hello. I remember having this probelm before...but that was before new harddrive and fresh install. The computer is an old compaq 133 (pentuim 133) with win98se. I have tried three different micewith the same result. I am also using a different monitor than the one I used when installing. It is very annoying. I searched here and google and could find no information. can anyone help?

upgrade your mobo bios.
it's difficult finding mobo bios for compaq machines... but if you spend enough time looking for it, you'll find it.

that's where i'd start.
and then move onto upgrading your mouse driver.
see if you can plug in a usb mouse... (i'm assuming that you're using ps2 or serial).

it could also be a setting in your mobo bios.
check that first. and if your settings are correct, upgrade your mobo bios.

Real strange. I assume you mean it beeps as you start to move the mouse, not that it beeps the entire time the mouse is moving. Maybe try installing a new mouse driver. Uninstall the PS/2 port (assuming this is a PS/2 mouse) and let windows re-detect it. Not sure what to say.

thanks for the replies... I let windows re-detect the mouse port...the beep is still there. hoihtah, I have to search through the floppy archieves for that bios...got it sitting around some where. The computer Gods are sure letting me have it! All I want for this computer to do is network to my laptop and hold images of my laptop harddrive for backup...

when you move the mouse, say to point to My Computer, the internal speaker beeps until you stop the pointer...sorry if that wasn't clear in the orginial post.

don't use the bios that came with the computer.
you're going to have to look for an update to your computer.

the beep noise you're getting is no different than the beep noise you get when you hold your keyboard for too long.
basically, your mouse movement is relayed to your mobo as this same effect.

this can be caused if your serial or ps2 port setting is wrong... if the irq is conflicting.

there are many different ways to attack this issue...
but i'd start with trying a usb mouse as i stated earlier.
and if that problem continues..., (which i highly doubt).
try manually upgrading your mouse driver.
if that doesn't work... then upgrade your mobo bios.

just as a side note...
this happened to me once when my mouse wasn't plugged in securely.
(i'll pass on asking you this question in respect for your fundamental computer knowledge. )

hoihtah, i checked the physical connection just in case I am an idiot, and this is not the probelm. And the bios I have on floopy is THE updated bios...they have released a new one in a while...this is an old computer...so old that USB anything is not an option, no usb ports...Argghh, this is so much more work than I wanted to do! thanks for the advice, I will be do this bios stuff later tonight to see if it works...

does this affect the actual system performance in any way? Just open up the case and yank the internal speaker's connector off of the motherboard. Sounds like too much work for one lame ass problem... I'd bet its a hardware problem, with the ps2 (serial? haha) connector on the motherboard itself.
