I have an older system that just started having a problem. It boots up fine and will work for awhile then computer will make 1 beep then lock up. No changes have been made to the system, and was runing fine before. Temperatures a fine, not a heat issue..Im thinking memory or MB ??

Win XP SP2
MB-Gigabyte 7vaxp
XP2000+

Thanks for helping

Run Memtest86 overnight to check the ram.

Might wanna put Motherboard Monitor 5 on there also to check for voltage flucuations & temps. Use the "sys log" feature to record a log to a text.doc. The log will reflect voltage and temp readings. After a freeze, reboot and have a look at the text.doc to see if anything looked odd as far as voltage fluc's and temps.

Also, look closely at the motherboard and carefully inspect every capacitor on the board to make sure there aren't any 'puffed' looking ones. This of course will mean the board is going bad.
