Computer beeping

Im trying to fix a computer for a friend, and ive gotten no where. When you turn it on it just starts beeping, not really fast , just slow loud beeps about 1 second apart from each other. The beeping is constant too. At first i thought it was a harddrive failure, but after plugging in some extra hard drives, the beeping continued. Anyone know what hte problem maybe. It's a athlon xp 1700+

That would be a bios beep code, you'll have to look it up for the motherboard. Make sure the ram, video card, and heatsink/fan are all seated correctly.

I got the same symption (loud beeps a few seconds apart) last night after I flashed my BIOS to the lastest update on my Chaintech VNF4 Ultra mobo.

It's a bios beep code as stevty2889 stated.

You have to clear the CMOS jumper. Check the mobo manual to see the procedure. For me, it was simply turning the PSU off (not just the computer), pulling the jumper out of positon 1&2 and putting it on postion 2&3. Counting five seconds, then putting the jumper back on position 1&2. Turn the PSU back on and it booted up just fine.

Good luck!
