MY friend's ibm PC running windows 98 automatically shuts itself off about 5 secords or so after the windows98 bootup screen pops up. I really dont know what the problem could be. It is strange that it hits the windows load up screen then dies. Please give and ideas you have. Thanks.

There's a good chance the PSU is proprietary.

Open it up and see if all the fans are spinning and check the HSF to see if it is plugged solid with dirt and cr@p. I deal with this every day.

So if the PSU is proprietary there is nothing I can do im guessing. The plugged up HSF is definitely a possibility ill check that. Thanks everyone for the help.
