Computer auto-restarting during windows xp loading screen

Well that is pretty much it. here is what happened:

I tried to a scan disk/check disk earlier today. It said it can only do it on a restart to I figured I would wait till later. I forgot I had scheduled it so when I turned my pc on I decided to reset. Well thats when it happened. I get to the windows boot screen:

safe boot
safe boot with networking
safe boot with command

known config

normally

with any option i choose it gets to the windows loading screen and at about half the bar it restarts and repeats the process. any help is greatly appreciated.

And if you boot to recovery console and run chkdsk /p on your C: drive, what happens then?
