Computer and Printer won't turn on anymore

Can this fry my computer and printer. When I went to plug my monitor into my surge protector I touched a couple of other power cords and got a static electricity shock. After this happened I couldn't get my computer or printer to turn on. I tried unplugging both and using different outlets but this didn't help. The printer is an HP and I had an online chat with a tech from HP who said that I had a hardware failure and a malfunction of the power module. If this is what happened, does this mean that it probably affected my computer as well and if so, what can I do to fix the problem?

Thanks for any help you can give.

When you say using different outlets, did you use the same surge protector?
Could it be the surge protector that bit the dust (doing its job of course)?

I think that they put a fuse in the back of the power supply, maybe that blew.
Do you have another power supply to test the computer with?

I plugged the computer and printer directly into a different outlet without the surge protector. The surge protector still works as I have other things plugged into that still work.

I don't have another power supply totry but on the back of the power supply there's a light that goes on when I plug it in. According to HP's website it says that if the light stays on but the computer doesn't turn on there's a problem with something else so I don't think it's a fuse.
