computer alarm sounds when I go over 50% of CPU

usage... that's the way it looks, anyway.

I have Windows Task Manager up and it seems that whenever I perform some task that shoots the CPU (P:4 2.4) over 40-50%, an alarm sounds... weird... how can I turn that off in XP?

Or is that a BIOS issue?

Windows does not make cpu warning noises. You have a bios "issue". What type of temps is your CPU reaching?

looking at it right now as 36Celsius/96Fahrenheit

I have Task manager open and as soon as the CPUJ usage jumps over 40% the little alarm sounds.

Are you possibly trying to run a non-hyperthreaded able CPU with hyperthreading enabled? Not sure if this is even possible, just a guess.

Edit: can you post some system specs?

i think temps have more to do with this than CPU usage time... i'm maxed out at 100% right now using dvddecrypter and no alarm.. i'm running a few other things to get my temps up..

currently CPU temp is at 140F and the alarm just came on..

stopped a few processes and temps went < 140F.. alarm stopped.

140F is 60C still ok for load temperature. I would increase the warning temperature. Should be somewhere in the bios. Usually same place that has the voltages and temps.

will do..

it's funny.. i let it go back to normal temps and just ran SpyHunter(like adaware).. the temps slowly rose all the way to 143 degrees with nothing else running.. as soon as I stopped it, temp cooled and alarm stoped.

hopefully, i just need to re-seat the heatsink & fan..

thanks,
robert.
