Ok, it all started as I was surfing the forums looking at ATOT...then suddently my hard drive restarts and the system dosen't. The hard drive made the noise where its shutting down then (i hear the platters slowing down) then it starts back up (sound of platters going back to normal speed). So the system locks on me and I give it a reboot. In the POST screen where my drives are detected and my hard drive isn't detected but my cd drives are and boots till it gives me no system disk blah blah. It dosen't even exist so I decide to take my other hard drive and plug it in to see if my hard drive went dead. Same thing! hard drive ain't detected but the cd drives are. The only way I got it to even "partially detect it" was going into failsafe mode for my Epox 8K7A mobo. The hard drive I have a Western Digital WD205BA. When it started detecting it, it took about 30 seconds then under where my detected hard drive used to be is a "WD205BA 16.13M16". What is usually there is "WD205BA andSomeOtherNumbers". So i'm guessing that this "16.13M16" is some sort of effor code. I then proceed to plug in my hard drive into the computer i'm using right now (crappy @ss packard bell) and it recognizes it. So, for some odd reason it isn't even detecting hard drives since I already tested 2 hard drives. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I'd post at other forum sections but they aren't as visited as ATOT. I've already tested another hard drive and load fail safe mode for my bios. I'm going to try taking every non-essential part such as network card and such out to rule out any bad parts. If theres something I can do, please reccomend it to me. Thank god i wasn't typing a report or anything!

Happy thanksgiving to all of you!

How could the IDE controller causes it to not recognize a hard drive but can recognize cd drives...

sounds like your IDE controller died...unorthodoxish, but if you want, try putting the HDs on the secondary IDE channel.

hmm wow, figured it out after 2 long days of testing. Right when I was about to order a new mobo, I decided to try another 80pin IDE cable and it worked! Didn't know cables go bad like that...
