Looks like my days of obsessively checking hardware news and prices are over... because I'm happy with what I've got!

Check my signature, but I figure that I've got a very able and comprehensive system. Can you guys say the same and that you DON'T want yet more and faster hardware?

I use the internet a lot, burn CDs, do my website, scan in pictures, play a game every week or two, watch DVDs, print, can do lots more with it but... what I want to say is that I have a plenty good system and don't need to immerse myself in computer machismo or "keeping up with the Jones." Computers can become a disease, you'd better watch out.

I'm going to concentrate on what I can DO with what I've got, not obsess over useless figures.
I know a lot of you people just won't get it... get well soon.

TBird 800MHz
KT7-RAID
640MB PC133 RAM
(2) 30GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40 hard drives (ATA100, non-RAIDed)
CL Annihilator 2 32MB DDR Geforce2 GTS
Yamaha 6416 SCSI CDRW
Plextor 12Plex SCSI CDROM (old as hell)
Toshiba ATAPI DVD-ROM
Sound Blaster Live! Value
Adaptech 2940 Fast SCSI controller (bought with the 12Plex)
Linksys FA310TX
CTX VL950S 19" short-depth monitor
Cambridge Soundworks Soundworks (not redundant) speakers (one step above PC Works)
Win98SE
cable internet service using a Netgear RT314 router

That's the system I actually use. I've got two more sitting beside it that are running but doing nothing but RC5 cracking (one is an occasional dedicated Unreal Tournament server).

Yes, I need more stuff. I just can't afford it.

<hypnotics>

sweetrobin, you're falling behind...technology is getting ahead of you...your system is nearing obsolescence...you need that upgrade...you're not enjoying your online gaming as much because your system isn't as fast as it could be, preventing you from fully displaying your abilities...it takes too long to boot up...software installations are painfully slow...graphics rendering is interminable...web browsing may as well be on a 2400 baud modem...if you could just get that processor upgrade, things would run so much better...and a little more RAM would help prevent swap file usage and assist multi-tasking...and the video card, how can you possibly game with only 32bit 1280x1024 getting 60 fps?

RAM is very cheap right now...you should buy now, before it gets expensive again...ignore the ones that say it will stay cheap...you desperately need to upgrade...RAM makes life better...RAM is better than cocaine (and cheaper now)...

*holds needle over a Bic lighter for a few seconds*

There we go, now I'm safe...

*shoots up another 128MB Cas2*

:confused::):confused::)

Whoa........

You guys gotta' try this stuff.

I've fallen so far behind the curve that I don't need to worry anymore about keeping up with the Jones, since they probably not only have a better computer, but have already moved to a better neighborhood.

I usually upgrade when I can get a hot deal and get the necessary parts cheap. :)

I upgrade often, as I am good at finding deals.

...and they're in the process of getting some sort of law passed that would force you out of your home and into some other city in government housing with the 'others like you'... :)

So given that...it doesn't look like you'll be needing rent money shortly...so you may as well pick up another 256MB of RAM...and your processor could use a little boost in MHz...

I am on my computer of almost four years now. It has not been upgraded in any shape or form, and it still runs. I need a new one, and as soon as I get the money to, I will. Hopefully in January..... :)

I thought I was over my compulsive upgrading (considering I was running a celeron and voodoo3 for so long) until recently where i upgraded to a P3 @ 980MHz and a Geforce2
Don't think I'll be needing to make ANY upgrades for a while now...but I may pick up a Philips Acoustic Edge to replace my 2 yr old MX300.

I like to upgrade when I need to which in my case is now & then,my next upgrade is going to be a new monitor "next month"(my current monitor is starting to go soft on image at bottom of screen so no choice here) & after that I will be waiting for my pocket to recover before going after a NV20.

:)

I just put together a whole new system for myself, bad Bobtist! It was pretty impulsive, too:). I was bored on a Friday night, so I started looking at a few things on pricewatch. Before I knew it, I had most of a computer in the mail. It's decked out now, I just couldn't stop.

Hopefully I won't do anything like this for a while... (notice I'm leaving the term "while" ambiguous)

;)

I'm almost off. I just need one more hit to satisfy my craving....it's been so long. Just one more stick of RAM. I'll take a small dose, I'll settle for 64 MB. Whatever it takes man, I just need one more upgrade. My system needs the hookup, but I'm out of cash, man. Just loan me a fiddy for another stick of RAM, I'll get it back to you next month man. Help a fellow addict out. Please....
