Quick question for some of you guys who shop/work at Compusa.

I bought a one year replacement plan for a video card I bought there, I think it just recently expired (Not 100% sure, but 99% likely), I think it might be on it's last leg, it's possible it's just a fan problem, but either way, does anyone know if you can renew a replacement plan?, or have any other ideas on how I can get this replaced if the plan did run out. I don't know compusa's policies.

Thx

unfortunately, you cant renew replacement plans... i believe the only plans that are extendable/renewable are computer repair plans, possibly tv and camera repair plans too.

Why would you buy their replacement plan.... would they offer it if it didnt make them money? The odds are against you when you buy stuff like that.

Anyway best bet, just send it back to the manufacture ATI/NVIDIA

honestly it is a good deal. i have bought it on everything ive bought there. on some things its not worth it, but on things like printers (i see soooo many come back for replacement) and hard drives (which can randomly fail whenever), its definitely a good investment.

I would actually never buy a videocard from the store since I could get it +/- 35% cheaper online, but I had some extra cash at the time and didn't feel like going through the hassle of mail order, credit card, bla blah blah.

At the time I gave ATI another chance after have problems with them in the past, I bought an ATI Radeon 9700 PRO AIW. I brought it back to the store about a week later because it was a piece of garbage, they gave me an even exchange, so I took a replacement plan out on it, (it was very cheap), I took the replacement plan out on it because the guy said it's a replacement of the cash value, NOT the card. So I took the radeon home and had the exact same problems, so I sat on it for a few months and went back and traded it in for an nvidia 5950. Taking into account the problems I had, and considering how cheap the replacement plan was, and also considering you can trade in stuff for the cash value I bought it for the 5950 also.

If you buy a decent HD it already has a 3 year warranty. I guess you're just paying extra for some convenience.....

yes thats exactly the idea. almost everything you buy has a warranty, but that just means you can send it back to them and wait for them to send you a refurbished one. why not pay a couple extra dollars to be able to bring it to the store and get a brand new one? customers ALWAYS come in a year after they bought something expecting that we will exchange it... this is why we have the plan.

god, why am i getting so defensive?

Eh, I've bought a few PSPs in my time. I've yet to ever use one. What pisses me off is that BB changed their policy regarding PSPs and cell phones and of course the new policy sucks such that I would have never bought it to begin with. Oh well, I guess the cost of the PSP is still less then a new battery.
