"$30 Mail-in
24x10x40 Internal CD-RW Drive
(CompUSA sku #284895)
1. Purchase a QPS Internal DVD-R/RAM Drive at CompUSA between
October 27, 2001 and November 3, 2001."

The rebate coupon lists the correct SKU,
but says "DVD-R/RAM" in the rebate body.

I think it's a pretty Hot deal, as long as CompUSA doesn't
mess us over with the rebates.

Anyone know of a good review of this drive?
:p

Drive is a Sanyo [QPS CRD-BP15000P (MMC)], at least the one I tried out with my Mac a while back. Some mechanisms reported to be NEC (nr-7800a). Sanyo mechanism has burnproof. NOT compatible with most pre-G4 Macs; and lotsa problems with G4s according to www.xlr8yourmac.com . Door is too big for beige G3s unless you remove the bezel on the computer.

Nice drive, though, for a PC, especially for the price (was $200 3 months ago; $100 after rebates). Very quiet and responsive.

I dunno if it's listed, but you might find a review for it at http://www.cdrinfo.com

my friend bought this 3 weeks ago around the same price. he tells me the drive is not bad, he has burned many times at 20x without a problme but with cheap media burning at 24x makes COASTERS.

I bought one of these during the last rebate promotion...the only problem I've encountered with it is it rejected one spindle of Prime Peripherals CD-Rs. Other than that, I've burnt plenty of 8x and 16x certified media at 24x, error-free.

This Price is Pretty Hot to use an AMEX Best Value Guarantee for those of us who bought this drive with a while back with an extra $50 rebate. Should make our final price $49.99. Gotta Love the Amex Blue :)

Just a reminder, anyone interested in making working copies of SD2 protected CDs (most new games), QPS won't do it. Lite-on 24x and Plextor 24x both will. Lite-on 24x is about the same price (Newegg has it for $105 shipped, no rebates). Many reviews have the Plex 24x and Lite-on 24x beating the Sanyo 24x(QPS) performance-wise.

This is a great drive. I picked it up the first time this deal was around. I also picked up a 100 pack of Imation 16X cd's. I was able to burn all 100 of those cd's at 24X w/o one coaster. Drive is fast and very quiet. For those of you looking to make SD2 back ups I believe there is software out there that will allow you to burn sd2 backups whether your drive supports sd2 or not.
