Or you can just order online unless the price specifies in-store only.

i hear that compusa has a policy of rejecting something like 90% of all mail-in rebates right off the bat. However, if the customer follows-up, they accept like 60% of those rejections, and if the customer basically 'harasses' them, they usually come through. is this true?

otherwise, these deals seem nice

Don't believe everything you hear.

I have done well into three figures of CompUSA rebates and have gotten every one. I haven't had to fight for any more of them than from any other store. I've only had one rejected and a phone call corrected it.

When I bought my 9800 Pro for $250 with a $20 instant rebate and a $30 mail-in-rebate after about 2 months or so I hadn't received the rebate so I called and was told they never received it and it was lost in the mail. The tech support idiot told me that the only option I had was to go to compusa and ask If I could have a UPC barcode off one of the 9800 Pro's. Riiight...so anyways, the rebate mysteriously came about a week ago. Still don't plan on buying major components at compusa ever again.

Are you complaining because you failed to keep copies of your submission or because you got your rebate?

hey all, let's not get argumentative on rasputinj's thread. I just wanted some personal experiences before I jump on some of these deals.

Ironically enough, the Audigy 2 ZS without the additional games is $20 more.

Sorry, won't post on this thread after this. No, I'm not complaining, I'm just warning. I sent the rebate, and yes, I made copies of my submission. I had copies of the bar codes, the receipts, the date I sent it, everything. I told the tech support people this, and they all said it was no use. They said my original rebate must have been lost because they never received it and the only way I could get the rebate at that point was to get another UPC bar code off of a brand new 9800 Pro. Believe me, I would have sent in my copied UPC/receipts in a minute if they said they would take them.

I wonder if that USB drive is 1.1 or 2.

If they don't specify it's usually 1.1

On the contrary, the Lexar USB JumpDrive Secure's are USB 2.0 (link) They're too ugly for me though... :p

I have the Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256MB USB 2.0 Flash Drive and for starters, it looks much better and is a lot skinnier/smaller. You can get it for a few bucks more (with no rebates) from MWave here.

Very tempted to jump on that Audigy deal....I'd just get the non-Gamer, but I want Halo and Jedi Academy too!

Those are USB 1.1 only, I own one. That page you linked, only mentioned that they are compatible with USB 2.0 connections (since those are backwards-compatible with USB 1.1 devices, then I should certainly hope so). But it doesn't state that the device is USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compliant, because it is not.

Contrast that with the Sandisk Cruzer Mini that you also linked, that does clearly state in the product description "Cruzer Mini is Hi-speed USB 2.0 certified".

I don't know about the newer, Lexar JumpDrive Sport model. Those have a slim form-factor just like the Cruzer Mini. Since they are newer, they may support USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. But I don't think that the deal in question is about those.

It's not really your fault, a lot of people get confused, I've done it too. The USB Consortium has undertaken a rather deceptive marketing tactic, that of intentionally re-branding most USB 1.1 devices as "USB 2.0" (meaning - compatible with, can plug into USB 2.0 ports). You have to specifically look for "USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Certified" on the label, for USB 2.0 480Mb/s transfer-rate support. Really bad offenders are scanners and printers, that say "USB 2.0" on the label, and people take them home, and find out that they are really just USB 1.1. :| There were several write-ups about this issue last year, including a Slashdot article.

Personally, I find this rather reprehensible, it's like taking older Ultra ATA-33 HDs, and re-labeling the packaging as "ATA-133", because they can be used with ATA-133 IDE ports on a mobo, because those are downward compatible to ATA-33 speeds. But the HD itself is still just ATA-33.
