Hello! I picked up the 'free' Kensington web cam from Compusa yesterday and was charged $29.99. It is suppossed to be free, but there was only a $20 rebate form attached to the box. The clerk at Compusa told me there was an additional $10 rebate in the box. There was no such rebate. Could someone e-mail me the $10 rebate to x-files@qx.net, so I can get the full $30 back in rebates? It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I bought one yesterday but I got the store to give me $10 instant off on the price. The $10 Rebate is on an oval-shaped sticker on the box. It applies if u signup for spotlife and needs original UPS as does $20 rebate.

So whether or not I have the $10 rebate, I wouldn't be able to use it anyway because I'd be mailing the single UPC to the $20 rebate anyway? I guess this is a case of going back to CompUSA and complaining. Maybe they'll give me a retroactive $10 instant rebate?

ElFenix.. Webcam cause I don't have anything USB to play with. :) Also takes better pictures than my 3-year old digital camera, so good for E13ay. Win2K drivers available on Thursday according to the kensington website.

coredog2.. if you're returning yours and that rebate form isn't an instant $10 off, would you consider mailing it to me? I'd be glad to send you a a self-addressed stamped envelope.

CompUSA store manager told me to send in a copy of the UPC for the $20 CompUSA specific rebate and the original for the $10 rebate.
That seems what other store managers have been telling people too.

At the store I went to, there was some confusion, then they said that they will take $10 off instantly. But when I got home, I noticed they didn't take $10 off, so I need to go back and get my discount.

I went over to my local Compusa and asked them what to do. They gave me a photocopy of the $10 off rebate and said to mail the original UPC to that one and mail a photocopy of the UPC to Compusa $20 one. They said if the compusa $20 one comes back declined, bring the decline letter to the store with the flyer from this special sale and they would give me $20 back on the spot. Sounds reasonable to me.

the $10 missing rebate was a orange sticker on the box. I got the webcam and promptly took it back.. very poor quality. The sound card stunk too.

I was also told to send the original UPC for the $10 rebate.

Also, Kensington is supposed to have Win2k drivers out later this week.

To lordlord or thelanx

How did you guys managed to get them to give you the instant $10 off? I tried with two managers but neither of them would give in unless I have the name of the person who authorized the instant $10 off. Can you tell me the location and name? Thanks.

At my store, some people moticed the extra $10 bucks and asked the customer service people. I think there was some confusion. The COMPUSA people decided to take $10 off instantly. So people who checked out already lined up at customer service to get their $10. The checkout people were supposed to take $10 off, but they didn't, so I went back today to get my $10 back.

coredog2: Kensington's web site says they'll have W2K drivers later this month (feb).

Aside from the confusion, the other thing that annoyed me about this rebate was the idiotic rebate sticker itself - what shmuck prints the instructions on a self-stick label that remains sticky even after removing it ? I laminated mine with transparent self-stick plastic just so I can handle it.

I'm going to skip on the $10 and mail in the $20 one. The last thing I want is to register on some web site for a "service" I won't use. Besides, $10 for a web cam isn't bad since I don't already have one. Chaulk this one up in the sleaze-rebate catagory.

What's the location of the store so I don't sound retarded when I say a friend of mine got the $10 off instantly.

could someone please send me a scanned copy of the $20 rebate certificate?

My compUSA told me to send both forms in the same envelope...but from what I'm hearing, that may not work.

Please send the image to lumpums@yahoo.com

Thanks

I am going to return mine, it basicaly is slow as hell, feels cheap the lens moves up and down, is it suposed to be like that?
What good is free (if you are lucky and get both rebates back) if it works like a POS.

Win2k beta drivers are out for the Kensington VideoCAM
http://www.kensington.com/support/sup_1170.html#cameras

The sucky thing is that you have to update to the Win2k firmware in Windows 98. The firmware upgrade program won't work in Win2k. I don't have Win98, which makes this process a bit harder.

For those who can get this going, i'd like to hear how the videocam is in win2k.
