That depends on how close you're sitting and what apps you use. I would say it's not the best choice for a desktop monitor, but it's satisfactory for regular surfing, etc. at a distance of about 6-8'. I use mine that way in a setting where its main task is TV/video display.

Note this has the 15:9 aspect ratio :(

This is a deal breaker for me..

26" LCD screen with 15:9 aspect ratio
HDTV-ready; 170° vertical and horizontal viewing angles
3D comb filter; progressive scan; two integrated 10-watt speakers
VESA 200mm wall-mount compliant
8-1/2Hx19-3/4Wx35L"

tried city of industry, CA store. they had none in stock when I went in at 10:30ish AM. Ended up driving down to monrovia near the Float Parade. They had 7 in stock when i went. The guy brought out the HVX model, my eyes lit up, but when he rang it up it didn't show that it was on sale, so had to stick with the HVE model. :(

Got the last one in South FL after trying 2 different stores and posting from it now. This is one heck of an upgrade from a 17" CRT

And this TV does 1280x768 so that means its a 16:9 AFAIK

Most CompUSA's are out of the HVE model and are hence subbing the HVX model for the same $499 OTD price

sounds like a big bummer, I'm not sure what I should do, should i just go back to compUSA and wait for the HVE's to run out? ask if i can substitute for the HVX?

I reserved one online for in-store pickup and just returned with it. First impressions are pretty good.

I do agree with something stated earlier... I would not recommend using it as a PC monitor on your desktop because (1) too big and (2) I also hear low volume static when no sound it being played through it.

Are they supposed to be subbing it if they are out of the HVE model? The stores here in SoCal (that I've called) are just telling people "sorry for the inconvenince but it was only available for limited quantaties".

I think that Fry's had this same model for $449 without a rebate. I have the better model of this tv for my bedroom (HVX) and it's a nice tv, especially for the money. I haven't compared the HVE to the HVX, but if the HVE is anything like the HVX, it's a great deal! I do know that the specs are quite a bit different though and I don't know how that translates into performance. Those of you that are getting the HVX model for $499 without a rebate, that's definitely a steal. I paid $499 after a $200 rebate at Thanksgiving for mine and I thought that I got a great deal.

For the money, you can't beat 'em. From what I've heard, they use an LG screen. My tv didn't have any dead pixels and has performed flawlessly since Thanksgiving. There may be better models out there, but you'll end up spending 2-3x the price or more.

Just picked one up today from Fresno, CA Compusa. They tried to say this was an east coast only deal, but pulled up their website within the store and they caved and gave for the right price. Once I got it home I popped it open and it looks like they actually sold me the HVX version instead of the HVE! Woohoo!

In a nutshell what's the difference between the HVE and HVX models?
