Agreed - I'd rather deal w/ them than some of the smaller shops found on ebay or pricewatch

Most people's problems stem from TigerDirect's rebates. Other than that, their prices happen to be a bit higher than most.

The company has a long legacy of value pricing,
Someone must have lied to SystemMax. The reason CompUSA is going out of business is their pricing sucks and no one would shop there. Even now with 30% off of stuff, the prices on some of their stuff is still not competitive.

At a local CompUSA they STILL don't have any midrange Socket 939 chips. Forget AM2 and Core2 chips. They were sellinng a $3500+ for well over 200 dollars. But other than core computer components, games were reasonably priced and most accessories were in fact cheaper than any other retail chains. I picked up an external hard drive enclosure for $15. Not bad.

Back in 2003 when I built a system, Tigerdirect was still abhorrible. Took 1 and a half years and 4 submissions to collect the ~$350 worth of rebates. Didn't help that UPS completely bashed in our boxes causing some of the smaller parts to go missing. Horrible experience.

Now we got in on the diNovo deal and got 2 of them. Two $50 rebates through Logitech. Hopefully that goes well. I'll never trust a rebate through them again though.

The article says it all.

Well, not ALL.

The article says "Pending required approvals, up to 16 CompUSA stores in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico will be added during the first quarter of 2008."

There are currently 31 stores in FL, TX and Puerto Rico. Which ones will come under TigerDirect control?

I would imagine that they will look at the sales figures for the stores and pick out the top performers, or at least the ones that are in markets where TigerDirect doesn't currently operate (in FL).

I'm baffled by the "value pricing" comment in the article. Apparently they never looked at buying a cable there!

let's face it, these retail stores will suck regardless. prices will be much higher than those found on websites. why? it's simple, overhead.

so stop yapping and buy things online and if you have to buy something in the stores, so be it. sheesh

My only complaint with tiger direct is the emphasis on rebates.
Its hard to find much on their site that doesn't require a rebate to get the advertised price.

I've been buying on and off from TigerDirect since 2003 and I've never had a problem with them. I only bought stuff that had rebates a few times but even then I never had any difficulties getting the rebate money.
