Sure does seem to resemble the SMC 7004ABR Barricade 4-Port 10/100Mbps Broadband Router. Anyone know if this product is OEM'd from SMC?

I think the guts of the SMC, D-Link, Asante, Linksys, et al are all OEM from the same third-party manufacturer. See this guide:

practicallynetworked.com

I didn't find any info on the Siemens but it looks almost identical to the 3COM router which was also sourced from the same OEM.

vulpeculla -- This looks like a good deal, but your message is a little unclear because either D-Link or Linksys (I forget which) makes a router that has a router with a built in, stand alone printer sever that works whether or not the main machine is turned on. That is a really handy feature in homes where you don't want to leave that machine on all the time.

The Siemens/Efficient/Speedstream routers are pretty good. The 2614 is included in the router review in the new Pc Magazine and comes off pretty well. There is also a new firmware update for it on the Speedstream support site.

The 2602 2-port model comes with a firmware set for an MTU of 1412, and overrides any higher (e.g. 1492) registry setting. I found I could get a high download speed by seting the MTU in the registry to 1400.

Any comments on how this router compares to the Linksys - for $18 more (an no rebate!) you can get one from Dell.

Dell.com (Small Business) is carrying this Cable/DSL Router for $79.95
Dell.com Small Business is currently offering 15% off on all Network Devices
Dell.com Small Business is also offering Free Shipping for a limited time

Your Final Price: $79.95 - $11.99 (15% off) = $67.96 + Free Shipping

The Linksys is an excellent router too... I tried one last month and it worked A-OK.

There is an article on routers in the current issue of PC Magazine (Feb 12)...
SMC, Linksys and Siemens where all rated highly

<< Siemens is known to make reliable stuff. >>

I can't speak in general, but the Siemens 2.4 ghz phone I got during black friday is getting crappier by the day... might have a defective one... can just get a new one, and do a swap... easier than waiting for the company to RMA it.

Not thread crapping just a warning about Compusa rebates, It won't take 6-8 weeks, it will be more like 16-18 weeks, and you will have to fight tooth and nail to get them......
