CompUSA Branded 500W PS

Anyone see these before? Any ideas who may make them as there aren't too many 500W class ATX units on the market.

i got a 400 watter from compusa the other day. it's sitting in my p4 system in my sig. i've got a pc power and cooling 350 ps coming tho. if it gives me better oc i'll post it.

Yea, I've used the 400w CompUSA PSU. It was fine. I used it with a Athlon XP system, and if it can handle that, then it should be able to handle anything.

I looked everywhere I could think of on the net and the closest I came to possibly identifying them was a company called FMI. Never heard of them before. However, my Enlight PS died on a Sunday. I went to CompUSA because I had the urge to get my PC running IMMEDIALTLY. (Call it a weakness) They had the 400W and 500W in stock. I got the 500W with the dual fans, not because I needed 500 watts, but because it was priced the same as the 400W. Since CompUSA is local I also can take it back if it fails. The Enlight will have to be RMA'd and then I have to wait.

One more thing about the 500W PS, it has dual fans which helped lower my temps a few degrees after the swap. Don't buy it if you want silence. The dual fans rule that out, but it isn't too bad. At least it doesn't scream.

ur right. i think i also bought the 500 watt also. now that i think of it. they were the same price. but the 400 i'm sure was an FMI i think the 500 wasn't branded at all.

The box mine came in had CompUSA all over it, as if I might accidentally forget their name. Did a large search in the news groups and elsewhere and came across an FMI connection for the CompUSA brand but can't even begin to remember where it was at. Runs my XP17100 just fine too, but it's just a single. No complaints here. It really isn't as loud as I expected. Sort of busted my bubble though.... had worked with various heat sinks and low RPM case fans to get it nice and quiet, then I go an put in a dual fan PS. Oh-well.... at least I can still hear the TV over it.

Same here.

This PS drives my Athlon XP based system with no problems. I have not found the noise level of the ps' two fans to be unacceptable.

Replacing those fans with Panaflos or even Pabst fans will fix the noise problem. Adda fans (like the ones used on Antec) are fairly quiet also. NOTE: The Adda model used on the Antec is very quiet, but only when the supply is cold! I found that removing the temperature controller from the circuit and running the fan at a full 12V resulted in a VERY noisy PS! The fix of course was to use a Panaflo and run it off 7 volts.

Can you tell me which Panaflo? As long as it moves enough air to keep the PS cool and quiet I would be interested.

This is the fan I use.

This is the 80mm Panaflo. VERY quiet at 12V, 99.9% silent at 7 volts!
