Does anyone know if this is a decent DVD-ROM drive? Will probably have to use software decoding with my AMD Athlon 650/128MB/VooDoo3 3000 AGP/17" ViewSonic E771.
Well if it's a afreey you can make it region free...
- Affrey DD-4008E (8X/32X)
(Known firmware : 10 / 12 / 40)
If you have the RPC-2 firmware 40, you can make the drive to RPC-1 (region free). The trick is to put a jumper on the middle set of pins to the left of the digital audio out (on the far left of the back of the drive).
RPC-1 with firmware 10 / 12
RPC-2 with firmware 40
hmmm...i looked this up late sat. nite and if my memory is correct it's an onkie...but never heard of it before. i thought this seemed like a really good deal but evidently it's not available at my local store (springfield, mo)...and am unsure of the brand, especially if it's an onkie...vroom
Are there any reviews out for this drive, or have any of you tried one of these before? Are they any good? I'm looking for a good DVD-ROM for my Athlon 700, 128 PC133, VooDoo3 1000 AGP, but only want to spend around 80 bucks. Any suggestions?
i went by today, but didn't see any "afreey" on the box. is it labeled on the drive itself(ie. open the box)? i wanted the raite, but but i'm a scaredy cat. i'm going to check out cnet
The manufacturer will be on the label on the drive itself. The Prime Peripherals CD-ROM I bought a couple weeks ago is an Afreey. Has no one bought this drive? I'm tempted to buy it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it for me (I have a Toshiba 2x without a faceplate, tempted to sell that and replace it with this one).
nobody's hip to it, that's for sure. plan on buying the 3000 at bb also tomorrow(went today, but STILL wafflin on both) who thinks the 3000 is gonna get lower?
