Wow, isn't that a really, really nice deal on the seagate hard drive?

Isn't that the same drive? Is this in store only, or online as well? I might just have to pick me up 400 gigs.

Maxtor 120 gig, 7200 rpm 8 meg cache PATA retail box, $70 No Rebates > PATA?? Don't know the acronym. Need a couple of these 🙂

is this online or instore?

I bought the motorola equipment during Black Friday and want to pick up another PC card. Can I still get the rebate on this one?

Be cautious with that I/O Magic drive...several posts over at CDFreaks say it is not a sure thing that you'll get the Benq...gah, nevermind...that's the external you mentioned. I don't know what the situation is with it.

CMC MAG.F01 = OK
MCC.....002 = OK
TDK.....001 = OK
RICOHJPNR01 = GOOD

where did you get that from? according to my list here (not as specific as yours though) http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R) = Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R) = Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes = Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results
RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R) = Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95% success rate

How are Toshiba notebooks? I'm looking for a notebook.

imo, the most important thing is buying an extended warranty. when, not if, parts break, they will be very costly. generally toshiba is ok.

A little birdie (CompUSA employee I've known for years) told me there would be a hell of a deal on a EDTV 42" plasma the week before Xmas. Might be something to watch for if anyone is in the market for one.

Any update on this. Links? Just came back from my CompUSA (Zip 92692) and they had the 400gig at 299, no rebates.

Whoops, just saw its for sunday. not today. Forgive my noobness. I went running out of the house, when I saw the post.

Aren't some of these in-store deals just for the hardy souls willing to camp out at the store entrance for hours before the store opens? Sort of a bait and switch scheme since very few customers will actually get to buy what's on sale, the rest can be offered much higher priced items?

Wife and I went happily off to get the post-Thanksgiving deal recently, some really good deal on a laptop. Thought we were doing great getting there at 5:15 am, store opened at 6, but when we arrived the line was already 150 people long, so we went to the next store in town 2 miles away, and by the time we got there the line was 200 people long.

By the time we got into the store, the sale laptops were long, long gone and the salespeople were not very friendly at all telling us about it, they acted as if we were quite stupid to think they would actually offer rainchecks or have more than five of the deal items on hand or even have something in anywhere near the same price range for sale.

The Best Buy across the parking lot had given out limited coupons to those in line at 4:30 am, maybe to prevent a customer riot or avoid long-suffering line-waiters from peeing on the sidewalk, so they could leave and come back later to use the coupons to buy the sale items now reserved for them. Later, there were people in the parking lot hucking these reserved coupons for sale... go figure.

So we went home and got some sleep and later got on the internet and bought a pretty good laptop from Frys.Outpost.com, no hassle delivery a couple of days later, cost us a hundred bucks more but was still not a bad deal and definitely easier than standing in line all night.

That's a good price on the TDK 4X +R media, but they're more than likely CMC. At least the 25-packs that I purchased from BB last time were, as were a 50-spindle of "ValueDisc" 4X +R from OfficeMax. The only difference is that the TDK cost twice as much. 🙁 Those disc aren't "flawless", I would estimate about a 15% defect rate, but of the ones without defects, they seem to burn fine. CMCs are known for having poor "dye spread"/uneven dye layers, and that was more or less the case with what I had, although the TDK spindle seemed to have less defective discs, even though the factory codes seemed quite similar between both discs. Even my 50-spindle of T-Y +R Fujis had some bad ones too though.

I had 4x TDK 50-pk. +R spindles that were made in Japan. They were TYs (YUDEN.....). I do not remember the exact codes on them (and am too lazy to look for them now), but they burned at 6x on my 2500A with the stock firmware.
