COMPU LINK ... What it is and what does it do?

After a year of nagging and the threat of spending thousands, I finally got my guy to bring home his stereo. It is pretty old but he paid big dollars for it at the time. It is a component rack system.
Every manual boasts this COMPU LINK. But I am not sure what that means and what it does.

The system consists of:

AX-R87BK JVC Stereo Intergrated Amplifier
FX-87bK JVC Computer Controlled Tuner
XL-M87BK JVD Compact disc Auto Changer
TD-W7J JVC Stereo Double Cassette Deck
AF-F97BK JVC Fully Automatic Turntable
RK-87 JVC Component Rack
CS-907 Pioneer Speakers

It looks kinda like this... but obviously older and with different speakers. Oh yea, and he says he paid about three times what the one in the pic costs.

Anyway... can anyone tell me what this COMPU LINK is, what it does and if the benefits are worth my hunting down the cables to make a go of it?

Compulink allows a JVC receiver or preamp to communicate with other JVC equipment, according to JVC's website. Basically just links them all together, and you control them with one remote.

Yeah as far as I can tell it's JVC's name for a connection that allows the receiver to communicate with other devices.

I think it's basically a way that if you pressed "CD" as the input on your receiver, it would turn on the CD player for example.

Now I think it's more the role of programmable remotes to decide what turns on when you change inputs, but receivers used to have these kind of features to do it.

It's not going to be necessary to connect up the COMPU LINK to get things to work though as far as I know. It just might make it more convenient when turning on sources.

Yep. I still have a JVC receiver and CD player from the 80s that boasts 'compulink'. It allows the receiver to control the other devices - possibly innovative at the time but no big deal today. The cable is just a mono 9mm I think.

I have a JVC TV & receiver hooked up w/ comulink. It let's me use the TV to view the receiver's menus, much nicer then using the little display on the receiver.

My grandfather used a professional variation of Compulink built into his JVC control panel. A push of a button could set the SVHS production VCRs to record and the master deck to play simultaneously while sending the streams through the appropriate RTCs and graphics generators. Really really cool stuff to see even though it's ancient by today's standards.

Had a friend few years back that interfaced his pc with it
