Comps can't see each other

Hey there. I know this is a real newbie q, but I have tried everything I could think of and then some.

The computers are connected through a USB hub, and are on the same domain. One is a laptop (usb->hub) and the other is the host for ICS. I used Client for Microsoft Networking as startup on both, and the TCP/IP is set as default while NetBEUI is also installed...

Sometimes I can browse the Entire Network folder, other times not at all. But everytime I fail to see the other computer... why??

Thanks for your help!

*Both comps use win98SE

It is Microsoft, what can you expect? You should still be able to use resources on the other PC, you just have to map them (You can use "net use" in DOS or use explorer to map them.

I don't think it is possible at all, USB hubs don't do networking. They are expansion for your existing usb ports. There is a special USB cable to connect to computers together, but USB hub...? Never heart about it. Firewire hub will work.

Ok, I read through that little networking howto, but I still don't understand how to set this stuff up in Windows XP. No matter what I do, I can't get my roommates computer to see mine through our network. I don't think XP supports the NetBEUI protocol that that site refers to.
