hey all

my bro is into film making and he has a ton of short skits ~1min he wants to put up on ebay... thing is he made them using final cut and pinnacle studio 9 (some) and they are all DVD quality... like 50megs for a 1 minute film...

does anyone have any tips on how he can reduce the size for internet consumption??
he wants to put them up on youtube, google video etc to get some feedback but they are way too big i don't think anyone is gonna watch them...

thx!

ps - he says in final cut there is no option for this, but then again he's been using it only for a couple of months...

plz help!! thx!!!

there are countless tools and compression-codecs...and the topic alone could be a lifetime's hobby 🙂

See...www.doom9.org with TONS of information

As a quick solution/tip....if your bro is into that stuff he should at least know some basics, programs etc.

I'd recommend (for a start) the essential "VirtualDubMod" program and codecs like ffdshow and the XVID codec (or DivX)....where you can load and convert
your movies and then compress using various audio and video formats.

You can use radium/lame MP3 codec (or AAC codec) for the audio-part and best bet (for now) would be compressing the videos in XVID.

But as said this topic is extensive....also..there are various "encoder GUIs) around noteably staxrip, megui, mediacoder which are user interfaces which automate all the processes using various/selectable codecs.

I also like "Sony Vegas" as an all-around full blown editing/cutting/effects program where you can edit the movies, title them etc. and then you could also save them in a different format like XVID. But VirtualDubMod is easier for the basics.

EditL if he uses a video-editing prog already there should defintly be an option to save those using another format/codec. Then just get the XVID codec and find the way to encode to an AVI w/ XVID from withing the editing program. There should also be options for resizing etc. s
