Compressing Pictures?

Hi all. I'm trying to compress some pictures in order to save some HDD space, but don't seem to be having much luck with it. I've tried WinRAR and 7-ZIp, but the compressed file is basically the same size as the orignal (ex. uncompressed folder of pictures = 768MB, compressed file = 700+MB).

Is there any software that'll allow better compression? Or am I reaching for too much? Thanks in advance.

JPG is a compressed format, you cannot expect to compress them very much. You can resize or change the quality of the picture to make them smaller, but that is not a good idea.

basically any media type file is not worth compressing with zip type compressors.
stuff like text files and system files can compress very well.

Suggestion . . . get an external drive and store your images there. Only keep a select few for current use on your system HDD.
