Compressed NTFS folders

...be copied to a cd while still in their compressed state? Not ZIP compressed.

Windows Xp SP3. I was trying to copy my ServicePack and Hotfix uninstall folders to a writable cd and I kept getting errors using Infrarecorder. Is it because the folders are compressed that I am getting these errors? Can compressed folders be copied to cd's?

Unless you put the files into a container (ala zip) if the file system (NTFS) that is providing the compression. Your CD drive doesn't use NTFS, it uses a different file system which does not support compression.

So, yes they can be copied, but they will take up the full size on the cd not the compressed size as stored on disk.

So they cannot be copied as is but must be zipped first. Is that correct?
Or could I just remove the compression attribute?

They can be copied, but they will take their full size, not their compressed size. If you need them compressed you will need to create zip or something like that.

Do I need to uncheck "compress contents to save disk space" first?

Nope, when copying compressed file from a compressed source to an uncompressed destination, they are automatically expanded during the copy.

I'd ask the makers of the burning software.

[/q I just did a rest and i tried to copy five of the hotfixes that start with
Q13276 blah blah and I couldn't. error acces is denied or file may be in use. Maybe it is a permission thing.

I have about 35 of these Uninstall folders and for some reason a few of them won't copy so I will just have to weed out the bad guys.
