Obviously the good doctor did not get a chance to try running the GTXP under Win2K w/512 mem or WinXP w/512 mem...

You're running WinXP with a GTXP, did you get it to work properly? I have 384MB of ram, and it works flawlessly, but many people can't get it output anything but static...

I went trough the review quickly... It's alright, but nothing I didn't know already. Dr Tom is just setting up the table to review the Audigy and tell us it's the second coming of God... ;)

Your one of about 55% of the people out there with your configuration that have achieved sound.

huh? Last time I checked win2k worked fine with any amount of ram. Maybe a few people had problems, but certainly not half of them. I check the Hercules forums from time to time and there certainly isn't a lot of problems with win2k like there is with XP. As a matter of fact, I think the drivers are better in 2K than in 98se or ME...

Well, I have come away with some different figures from the Hercules audio forums. There's gonna be a good ol' fashioned lynching over there. My computer would not run the GXTP under Win2K and ran for a while under XP but now won't run @ all.

Most people over there seem to talk about XP, not 2K. The problems with 2K are very isolated... Another thing is the people there are whining in a new thread every hour or so that they want XP drivers when Hercules was clear from the start when this issue was discovered that new drivers would come in October for the XP launch. They think if they whine and scream enough at the Forum guy (Chris), he'll magically pull drivers out of his @ss. :)

But I agree the XP situation sucks. As soon as I got mine to work, I made a Ghost image of my hard drive in case it would stop working... :) It's been two weeks now, and it's been working perfectly. Hopefully the new drivers will fix everything...

I can't belive that playing mp3 files takes 10-20% of 1Ghz processor's time under Windows! I could play mp3 with 3-5% of CPU usage under linux on K6/200 with SB16...
