These are surprising results. I guess I fell for the noise and fury of the Tea Party.

http://documents.nytimes.com/new-yo...the-country-as-midterms-approach?#document/p2

I'm not going to post the whole thing but here are the results that stand out to me:

37. In trying to solve the economic problems facing the country, do you think Barack Obama has expanded the role of government too much, not enough, or about the right amount?

Too much 37%
Not enough 22%
About right 34%

Here's a strange one... Apparently people have trouble with simple questions on true/false facts. I guess the Republicans' lies have worked on 92% of us.
40. So far, do you think the Obama Administration has increased taxes for most Americans, decreased taxes for most Americans, or have they kept taxes the same for most Americans?

Increased 33%
Decreased 8%
Kept the same 50%

48. Regardless of how you usually vote, who do you think has better ideas for solving the nation’s problems right now, the Republican party, or the Democratic party?

Republican 33%
Democratic 40%
Both 3%
Neither 17%
DK/NA 6%

74. Regardless of how you usually vote, who do you think is doing more to improve the nation's economy — Barack Obama or the Republicans in Congress?

Barack Obama 48%
Republicans in Congress 28%
Both 1%
Neither 17%

78. If a political candidate said they were part of the Tea Party movement would that make you more likely to support that candidate, less likely, or wouldn't that make a difference to you?

More likely 14%
Less likely 28%
No Difference 49%
Depends 4%
DK/NA 5%

90. Do you ever have any negative feelings toward Muslims because of the attack on the World Trade Center, or don't you?

Yes 21%
No 74%

From the NYT this is laughable. Of course no one hates Muslims, the world is peachy and the Libtards in charge are doing well enough. This is a joke.

I don't think he had an agenda, I think he picked the ones that were somewhat ironic. I did find it funny that about the only one that had the Repugs higher was about the WOT. Imagine that.

By the way for you NYT haters, not sure how the names were picked, but it wasn't done like a Fox or CNBC poll where it's a poll done by the viewers.

From the poll article page -
The nationwide telephone poll was conducted Sept. 10 to Sept. 14 with 881 registered voters and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points

PokerGuy and spidey07, if you have a legitimate criticism of the poll's methodology, please post it.

Anyone who attacks this poll because it was coducted by the NYT - ignorant of the facts, unable to raise any actual flaws with the polling - is an idiot.

If the idiots would bother looking at all the poll answers, they'd discover that it is basically consistent with other polls, i.e. Obama approval rating etc. So where the poll covers territory covered by other polls, it is close to the other polls within a margin of error, with a few exceptions, which themselves aren't that far off. No reason to be suspicious of this poll.

So why don't you just throw another tantrum and pretend to add us all to your ignore list again.

Well, in terms of the tax question (#40), keep in mind that the question did not mention income taxes. I have no doubt that people who smoke marked down increased.

LOL, see there is what people say and what people actually are. I bet 90%+ of Americans sometimes have negative feelings toward Muslims. This is, I think, very understandable given 911, whether they are right in it or not.

The polls reveal to me how effective the repub propaganda machine has been in making the gullible, the weak-minded and the ignorant turn against the Dems. Nice job at that. That same machine has been able to create memory loss in many others at how the repubs had an overwhelming influence in ruining the Nation's economy, (yes, yes, of course there were other factors, but not as siginificant as the repub's involvement in the debacle) and how the repubs have been very effective at creating gridlock in the Dem's attempts to fix what the repubs broke.

OTOH, true to form, the Dems haven't been pushing back hard against all of this poisoned propagandized fluff that's been spewing out of the teabag arm of the repub party. It's perplexing in the sense that history repeats itself over and over again in this regard. I guess owning the airwaves is a repub trick that the Dems, because of their nature, just don't have an answer for, although, in the very near future I may be proven wrong.....hopefully.

Obamacare is essentially a giant tax increase on all Americans, they just don't call it that.
Any type of government mandate is a tax increase.

Gee... to me this poll explains why there is a tea party...

36. Since he took office, has Barack Obama made real progress in fixing the economy or hasn't he made real progress in fixing the economy?
Made progress 35
Hasn't made progress 60

37. In trying to solve the economic problems facing the country, do you think Barack
Obama has expanded the role of government too much, not enough, or about the right
amount?
Too much 37
Not enough 22

41. Do you think Barack Obama does or does not have a clear plan for creating jobs?
Does 38
Does not 53

45. If you had to choose, would you rather have a smaller government providing fewer
services, or a bigger government providing more services?
Smaller 48
Bigger 41

BTW the poll has a 10 point skew in Democrats vs Republicans 35 v 25 with 33 independent.

Gallup's most recent party affiliation poll puts the numbers at 28 R 30 D 41

I can't find other recent polls on affiliation, but I am sure it is closer than 10 point with the way the Democrats are sinking.
