Hey there everyone, a lot of you know i've been toiling over what sort of pc to buy over the last few weeks. Well after a lot of help from some friendly people i've ordered everything and its on its way to my uncles address in San Fran.
I need some advice on what to do when I get there and am able to (hopefully) test it out before I come back to see if there are any major problems. I know how to overclock using the BIOS but are there any specific tips and tricks for the P4 that I need to do before I can overclock it.
Heres the system thats on its way:
Pentium 4 1.8 Northwood
Epox 4G4A
256mb of Mushkin High Performance PC2100 Cas 2, 2-2-2 RAM
Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4200 128mb
40gb 7200rpm 8ns Maxtor Hard Disk
8 (yes 8) 30cmf 80mm case fans
Nice black case with 400watt Skyhawk PSU
Should I flash the latest BIOS onto my MB before I start overclocking?
I'm looking for a 2.4ghz oc which shouldn't be too hard especially with a 1.8a as I only need a 133mhz FSB which my board supports anyway. The RAM may be the bottleneck but in two different tests its done 160mhz at 2-2-2 timings so it shouldn't be too bad.
I'm going to install a ducting system, so that the cold air from outside goes directly onto the CPU rather than just into the case. I may also do this for me GPU and see what happens.
Any advice would be very grateful, either tips, warnings, anything.
Thanks a lot 🙂 Mark
