Yes. Component video uses three seperate cables, one for luminance and two for color diffence channels. (Some component is just RGB for each, but that's inefficient.)

It provides much better quality than composite. It's a completely different system, and the cabling is absolutely NOT interchangeable.

the cables may be more expensive, but worth every penny. component video really improves the picture. it was like night and day the first time i saw it.
