Component Video Cables

My DVD has component (YPrPb) output and my TV has the compatible inputs. I've used normal "red-white-yellow" cables to connect the red-blue-green connectors. If my cables are standard quality, not bad but not high end, will the image look the same as if I bought "real" component cables that they sell for like $30+?

I never really did understand the standard resistance for each type of cable - i.e coaxial is 75 ohm, balanced 110 ohm, etc.

Anyway, most cables are a lot better than the garbage ones they package in with each A/V device (I'm talking about those triplet cables (R/W/Y) that are glued together). DIY if you want excellent quality at a low cost.

Normally, most red/white/yellow don't work quite as well, because only the red/white are matched.

Go get some like $8 component cables from Walmart. It's probably worth the investment.

Yellow composite video only offers resolution up to about 330 lines. Your DVD player will output 480+ and the only way to achieve that is through component video cables. S-Video only provides 400 lines of resolution or so, but would be a nice improvement over composite.
